About Romania

Closed to the public for more than 40 years due to the comunist regime, Romania is now prepared to reveal its genuine treasures and awaits for visitors. Situated in South East Central Europe, Romania is one of the large countries in Europe, with a population of almost 22 million inhabitants. The predominant religion is orthodox, but you will also find other communions: catholic, protestant, evangelic. The official language is Romanian, a language of Latin origin, which together with the Latin temperament and friendliness of its people - make of Romania a place where visitors feel joyfull and comfortable. Along with Romanians, Hungarian, German and Serb communities live together. The capital of the country is Bucharest.
Since the 1st of January 2007 Romania is member of the EU.

The Romanian people are very hospitable, waiting for their visitors with what they do best: tasty meals, large food portions, excellent wines and other local drinks.

How to get to the destination

By road: the principal access points into Romania are: Berlin, Warsaw, Budapest-Petea E 81; Vienna, Prague, Budapest-Bors E 60 or Nadlac E 64 or Varsaud E 671; Trieste, Belgrade-Moravita E 70 or Portile de Fier E 70; Athens, Tirana, Sofia-Giurgiu E 85; Istambul, Sofia-Vama Veche E 87; Moscow, Kiev, Chernovitz-Siret E 85. All roads are marked in accordance with international regulations. Driving is on the right side of the road and overtaking on the left. If you choose to come by car to Romania, bring your driving licence, car papers and green card with you.

By plane: some of Romania’s international airports are: Bucharest – Otopeni, Baneasa, Constanta – Mihail Kogalniceanu, Timisoara and Cluj Napoca. The cheap air carriers Blue Air, Brussels Airlines, Wizzair, Sky-Europe and Germanwings are flying from a lot of European airports to Bucharest, Targu-Mures and Cluj Napoca.
Rates can be as low as 1 Euro depending on how much time in advance you make your reservation (airport taxes not included) but you will pay most likely between 100 and 150 Euro per person for a two way ticket, if you book it a few months in advance. From the airport on, we provide transportation to the destination.

Practical information

Visa: Since the 1st of January 2007 Romania is member of the EU. EU citizens, apart from the Irish and British, as well as those from Canada, Japan and Switzerland can stay, visa free, for up to 90 days. Australians, New Zealanders and Israelis can buy a 30 days visa at any of the border points. Citizens of most other Eastern European countries, apart from Albania, Serbia and Montenegro, can stay without a visa for 30 days. Turkish citizens can stay visa-free for 60 days. All others should look for a visa with the Romanian embassy of their country.
Mobile phone coverage: You will have network coverage for your mobile phone almost all over Romania. The largest networks are Vodafone and Orange.
Internet: In almost all towns you'll find Internet cafe's.
ATM and banking: In all the bigger towns you will find plenty of ATM's and you can change your traveler cheques in most banks.
Cash money can be changed in most banks or at the exchange offices (Casa de schimb - or schimb valutar). The exchange offices are safe and offer often better rates then the bank. Never change money on the street.
